What Was It?
Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight to land humans on the moon. It was a part of NASA's Apollo program, which was designed to send humans to the Moon and safely return them to Earth. The mission launched from Kennedy Space Centre on July 16, 1969, aboard a spacecraft called the Saturn V rocket, the most powerful rocket ever built at the time. The crew consisted of three astronauts: Neil Armstrong, the mission commander; Buzz Aldrin, the lunar module pilot; and Michael Collins, the command module pilot.

The Moon Landing

While we may take space travel for granted now, it's important to remember that it was a leap into the unknown. The Apollo 11 mission showed the world that no dream is too big, and no goal is too impossible. Today, as we look toward Mars and beyond, we owe a huge debt to those three astronauts and the thousands of people who made Apollo 11 a reality.
